Restoration Work Summary

All body, chassis, running gear and hood restoration work by The Karmann Ghia Centre

  • Replace Ghia doors, Ghia boot lid and Ghia bonnet with clean/rust-free used Californian VW Replacement Panels
  • Replace all rotten metal body panels
    • n/s and o/s VW Ghia door sills
    • n/s and o/s VW Ghia heater channels
    • n/s and o/s inside and outside VW Ghia rear quarter bottoms
    • VW Ghia front valance
    • minor patches to rust holes on body
    • near side VW Ghia floor plan
  • Respray car inside and out (Colour: Toyota Mica Garnet Red, code 3J7)
  • Completely underseal chassis and underbody of car
  • Refit and fully refurbish convertible Mohair roof (Colours: Black roof & black head lining)
    • strip roof to bare frame and repaint frame
    • refit new outer hood
    • new inside head lining
    • wadding/padding
    • glass (plastic rear window)
    • all VW hinges, VW catches, VW clips and any VW corroded/perished fittings
  • Repair/replace and rechrome:
    • VW Karmann Ghia bumpers rechromed
    • VW Karmann Ghia side trim strips replaced
    • VW Karmann Ghia air intake grilles replaced
    • VW Karmann Ghia headlamp rings replaced
    • VW Karmann Ghia wiper arms rechromed
    • VW Karmann Ghia door handles and levers rechromed
    • VW Karmann Ghia front indicator holders and rear indicator trim rechromed
    • VW Karmann Ghia door window edge strips replaced
    • VW Karmann Ghia number plate light housing chrome trim replaced
    • VW Karmann Ghia windscreen trim replaced
  • Replace all door, window, boot-lid and bonnet rubbers with Genuine VW Parts
  • Replace rear Ghia lights with legal colours (post 1965 to have a amber indicator not red)
  • Replace where required the VW Karmann Ghia badges and decals on boot, bonnet and wings
  • New number plates in correct colour period format (black background white/silver lettering, front and back)
  • Retain reversing lights, discard front spot lights
  • Fit stock VW Karmann Ghia door mirror and remove nonstandard wing mirrors, weld up holes on front wings
  • Paint dash body colour - remove damaged and unwanted wood grain effect vainer dash covering
  • New battery
  • Replace VW brake cylinders, VW master cylinder and brake pipes where required
  • Ensure windscreen washers are working and don't leak.
  • Collapsed hood cover studs to be drilled in by Bernard Newbury, retain and replace the two studs next to door pillars
  • Replacement wheels and tyres supplied by me
  • All interior trim, fittings, seats and other interior items removed and retained (but not refitted)
  • Interior floor repainted black
  • New Ghia petrol tank fitted
  • Relocate battery, from engine bay to beneath rear seat. Fabricate battery box, allowing battery to sit low enough so as not to foul underside of rear seat
  • Relocate wiring (revers lights etc.) within engine bay to underside of engine deck and tinware
  • Prep and respray engine bay to exterior finish standard, removing all clips (voltage regulator etc.) and rust.
